It’s Spring and that means blossoming trees everywhere, the sight and smell of those gorgeous blooms lift our spirits and bring on some serious spring fever! Here in the Bay Area we are fortunate to have blossoms emerging as early as January and continuing well into May on a wide variety of species.
I have found that typically home gardeners think of all spring blooming trees as “Flowering Cherries” but did you know that many of the blooming branches out there aren’t cherries at all? Many are relatives in the Prunus family but there are numerous trees which provide Spring blooms from a wide variety of species and upon closer observation you will find they keep a fairly predictable schedule of bloom times each year.
